You know what the Yearly Reset is, right?
It’s where you start the year in the same place (or worse) than you did last year.
No noticeable results - no tougher… No leaner …
Still appear exactly the same (maybe softer and a little grayer and/or wrinklier ).
Weary and frustrated from going in circles …
Why does this regularly happen to many folks?
Here’s what I’ve noticed over the last 30 years:
They bite off more than they can chew .
They obsess over things like “ultimate plans”...
You know the ones - the kind that have all the foundational exercises in every workout… Expertly structured... Carefully calibrated ...
They eventually burn out physically and emotionally…
And the craziness of life swallows them up like here the Lightning Sand did to Wesley and Buttercup in the Fire Swamp.
So, my friend, if you find yourself in this situation (again), how do you avoid it
Simple.
UNDERACHIEVE .
Pick the simplest program that you completely trust you can do - and do it.
(This is why I’m such a Big Advocate of Simple routines … Not a lot of moving parts… Straightforward to follow…)
Who cares how “boring ” it is?
It’s certainly not more boring than being on the Merry-Go-Round of Shame every year.
“ I swear this year I’ll finally [FILL IN BLANK WITH SAME OL’ RESOLUTION]... ”
Pick your easygoing / straightforward plan of choice.
Set aside 3 20-minute blocks a week on your calendar.
And get to work.
But not too hard - you’re an “Underachiever ” this year, remember?!
And then, 365 days from now, bask in your glory as you look upon -
Your training log that’s filled with growing strength…
Your small kettlebells that are now unused and your big weights are finally crusted in chalk …
And maybe most importantly - you’re finally noticing differences in your body…
Muscle definition …
Slimmer sleeves on your shirts …
Looser pants and belts that are finally on that elusive last hole …
Remember - say “NO” to the Old Cycle.
